March 2026 Tax Calendar: Critical Dates for Individuals

While April usually gets all the attention, March is the pivotal month for ensuring a smooth tax season. It serves as the final buffer to organize your documentation and strategize before the filing deadline hits. Here are the specific dates and action items you need to know for March 2026.

March 10: Tip Reporting Deadline

If you work in the service industry and received more than $20 in tips during February, you must report them to your employer by March 10 using IRS Form 4070. You may use the official form or a signed statement containing your SSN, address, employer details, the period covered, and the total tips received.

Timely reporting allows your employer to withhold the necessary FICA and income taxes from your regular wages. If your wages aren't sufficient to cover this withholding, the uncollected amount will be reported in box 8 of your W-2, and you will be responsible for paying it when you file your annual return. Reporting now helps prevent an unexpected tax bill later.

March 16: The 30-Day Warning

We are officially one month away from the individual income tax deadline. If you have not yet scheduled your appointment or uploaded your documents, we strongly advise doing so now. Our calendar fills up rapidly in these final weeks.

Don't let perfection be the enemy of progress. You do not need every single receipt to start the process. If you are missing a specific form, we can simply bookmark that item and proceed with the rest of the return. Send the missing pieces as they arrive.

Even if you anticipate needing an extension, we should communicate now. An extension grants more time to file, not more time to pay. We need to prepare a preliminary return to estimate your liability and minimize potential interest or penalties.

Holidays and Disaster Relief

As per standard IRS regulations, if a due date falls on a weekend or legal holiday, it moves to the next business day.

Additionally, taxpayers in designated disaster areas may have different deadlines. To check if your location qualifies for relief or extended filing dates, please verify via the official channels below:
