January 15 - Employer's Monthly Deposit Due

For employers adhering to the monthly deposit rules, January 15 is the deadline to deposit Social Security, Medicare, and withheld income tax for December 2025. Additionally, it's the cut-off for nonpayroll withholding for December 2025 if applicable under the monthly remit rule. Note, electronic submission of employment tax deposits is mandatory, but those with a deposit liability below $2,500 per return period may opt to pay quarterly or annually along with the return.

January 15 - Farmers and Fishermen

Those in the agriculture and fishing sectors should pay their estimated taxes for 2025 using Form 1040-ES by January 15. If they don't meet this deadline, they must file their 2025 tax return (Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR) and settle any tax owed by March 2, 2026, to circumvent penalties.

Weekend & Holiday Adjustments:

Should a deadline fall on a weekend or legal holiday, it automatically shifts to the next business day that isn’t a legal holiday, allowing for extended compliance time.
